The successful reopening of Outrigger Fiji Beach Resort on Wednesday, July 1, has brought forward the much anticipated reopening of the renowned Mamanuca Islands resort, Castaway Island, Fiji, on Friday, July 31, giving locals the opportunity to stay at the luxury property.

Both of the Outrigger properties have released local offers in support of the national Tourism Fiji’s Love our Locals campaign in a boost to stimulate the struggling industry across the country.

This campaign has paved the way to allow locals, who may not have experienced either Castaway Island, Fiji or the Outrigger Fiji Beach Resort in the past, a chance to experience Outrigger Hospitality Group warmth with a Fijian smile.

Outrigger Fiji Beach reopened on July 1, with overwhelming support from the local market.

The resort initially released 47 bure for sale for the first week of July, but due to increased demand have opened a block of rooms online each week.

For the coming weekend there are 167 rooms available online.

Area director of sales and marketing, Fiji Islands for Australia and New Zealand, Ben Johnson said July created the highest local production they had seen in a single month in recent history.

“Because of the demand, we have extended the Love our Locals offer for travel through August and September as August is already showing strong traction.

“To meet this demand we will also be opening another block from next week”.

General manager of Castaway Island, Fiji, and a Tourism Fiji Bulanaire Steven Andrews said the iconic property’s reopening on July 31 was much anticipated with bookings already been received less than 24 hours since releasing the special offer to the domestic market.

“We are giving our locals the opportunity of a lifetime to experience the world-renowned family holiday which we at Castaway Island, Fiji have been providing mainly to international guests for the past 54 years,” he said.

The Castaway vuvale (family) is excited to welcome the local market and to be able to share the magic that is “Castaway”.

There will be 53 bure available to book at the refreshed resort which has not only been given a facelift because of the works completed after Cyclone Harold and has also adapted to the Outrigger Clean Commitment practices so it is COVID-19 safe and ready to welcome locals and the Trans-Tasman market when the borders are open.

Johnson continued to say: “The Outrigger has long held a special place within Fiji for all Fijians, and in challenging times we are thrilled that once again we are welcoming our regular guests home and introducing the bula spirit of our resort to new guests.

“As we await international borders to reopen and guests from all around the world to arrive in Fiji and experience many of our 333 pristine islands, both Outrigger Fiji Beach Resort and Castaway Island, Fiji extend a huge vinaka vakalevu (thank you very much) to all Fijians who have supported us during this time, and in turn allowed us to continue to support our staff as we navigate these unchartered waters”.

Outrigger’s two Fijian resorts will be operating as of July 31 for the domestic market and the demand from locals have been extremely encouraging for the premier beachfront property operators.
